Bundles and kits in depth
Choose where a bundle's stock sits, set up a prepacked gift box, change a kit's contents, and remove a bundle safely.
Where does the stock sit?
The one choice that matters.
- You
Virtual
Taken from the components (virtual): the warehouse stores single items and picks them for every sale. Stock sits on the singles. This is the default; choose it when unsure.
- You
Prepacked
Kept as assembled packs (prepacked): the warehouse stores the packs ready-made. Stock sits on the pack itself, so you send stock to the pack product.
Set up a prepacked pack
A gift box kept assembled.
- You
List what is inside
On the pack's product page, Use existing products opens Set up bundle. Add each product and its Qty per unit, set Stock to Kept as assembled packs (prepacked) and click Save components. The badge then reads Bundle - prepacked kit of n.
Change what a kit contains
Only while no order holds stock for it.
- You
Edit components
Use Edit components to add products or change quantities, then Save components.
- Automatic
Refused while orders hold stock
If an open order holds stock for the bundle, the change is refused on purpose and the message names the orders. Ship, cancel or release them first, then save again.
Remove a bundle
Back to a plain product.
- You
Remove bundle link
Remove bundle link → Remove link turns the listing back into a plain product. Give it a new link or bundle right away so its orders find the right stock.
What the warehouse sees
One box per kit.
- Warehouse
Kit card with bins
The order shows Kit: a set of 2 different products with each product and its own bin. The warehouse picks every product and packs one kit in one box. The Shipments page shows the same kit and its bins in the Items column.
The rules
Five of them.
- You
Virtual
Stock sits on the singles; the bundle cannot hold stock of its own.
- You
Prepacked
Send stock to the pack itself.
- You
Components
Always single products: never a bundle, never a linked product.
- You
Changes
Not while orders hold stock for the bundle.
- Warehouse
Boxes
One kit always ships in one box.
